Description

Dick Dugan 1954 Big Four Cleveland Indians Framed Lithograph Print. Depicts Bob Lemon, Bob Feller, Mike Garcia, Early Wynn and Manager Al Lopez. Artist Print Signature at bottom right. Discolored mark on Print as can be seen in last photograph.

A print of this raised about $50,000 at a charity for a dying one of them, Mike Garcia. Dick Dugan(1926-2011) was raised in Bellevue, Pa. During World War II, he joined the Navy and was trained at Camp Perry, Va. He was about to head to Iwo Jima when his commander saw Dugan's cartoons and held him back to be an artist and athlete. He studied art at Pittsburgh's Liberty Academy and Carnegie Institute of Technology and Atlanta's High Museum School of Art. In 1949, he began to teach at Cleveland's Cooper School of Art and lived at the downtown YMCA. After a Browns or Indians game, the front page would reflect the outcome with Dugan's happy or sad Chief Wahoo or Brownie the Elf. He also caricatured many celebrities, and many autographed the results for him. He also starred on the mound in fast-pitch softball and became "Doodles Dugan," dashing off caricatures and other cartoons on TV's Captain Penny show.
