Description

Vintage Leisy's Light Cardboard Beer Case from Cleveland, Ohio, Filled with 1970s Busch Bavarian Beer Bottles. Beer case does show wear from use and age as can be seen in photographs.

The Leisy Brewing Co. was started by Isaac Liesy and his two brothers. In 1873 they purchased Frederick Haltnorth's Brewery and came to Cleveland from rural Iowa. The brewery was located at 3400 Vega Avenue on the near west side and was once Cleveland's largest independent brewery. In the 1880s, after Isaac Leisy bought out his brothers, renovations of the old brewery began to expand its operations. Competition was fierce in Cleveland at this time, but Leisy Brewing remained an independent, family-owned brewery over the coarse of its entire history. Leisy Brewing closed in 1923 due to Prohibition and the unpopularity of their non-alcoholic beverages. After the repeal of Prohibition they returned in 1933 but industry consolidation continued to chip away at independent breweries and they officially closed in 1958.
