Description

Taylor Chair Company Solid Wood Arm Chair. Shows wear commensurate with use and age as can be seen in photographs.

Taylor Chair Company began in 1816 by Benjamin Franklin Fitch. He started making chairs by hand in his cabin that was located on the corner of Libby and Warrensville Center Roads. As demand increased for his chairs he started hiring a workforce to include Wm Taylor who later became his son-n-law. After a fire destroyed the Libby Road Sheds, they moved production to Bedford in 1850. In 1885 the company was incorporated as the Taylor Chair Co. By 1907, the company's line expanded to over 102 designs. In 2012. Taylor Chair Company announced they would be closing after nearly 200 years in business and family-run for seven generations. Executives stated that after not receiving an $850,000 tax break it had expected from the state for moving its headquarters to a former brownfield five years earlier weighed heavily on its decision.
