Description

1782 Antonio Vinaccia Violin Rebuilt in 1972 by Nicholas Orashan in Salem, Ohio with Case and Two Bows. Bows need repaired and case shows wear from age, as can be seen in photographs.
Antonio Vinaccia was a violin maker and son of Gennaro Vinaccia, who was also a well known instrument maker. He made violins from 1754-1784 in Naples, Italy. His violins were said to be well crafted and rather flat instruments in the style of N. Gagliano's.
Vinaccia's name was discovered inside this violin by Nicholas T. Orashan when he was rebuilding it. Orashan was a retired shoemaker when he decided to presue violin making. After having taught himself to play at a young age but no longer being able to due to a broken finger, he settled for making and repairing violins. People from all over came to have their violins repaired by him.
