Arthur Fankenberg was a sculptor who opened Frankart in NYC in 1922. He was known for his female “nudie girl” lamps. His creations were copyrighted. However, there were several competitors who began imitating his design. One of those companies was Apt Novelty Company who Frankenberg sued due to the lamp that they created very similar to the one in this lot. However, the case was dismissed due to the women's arms being in different poses by both companies. Frankart went out of business during the depression in 1932.
