Husband & Wife Team, Charles & Ray Eames were graphic textile designers, architects and film-makers who were two of the most influential designers in the 20th Century. They are most famous for these chairs. Euro Saarinen encouraged Charles to resume his studies at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan after Charles had dropped out of Washington University to start his own architectural firm. It was here that he met Ray, who became his second wife in 1941. They moved to Los Angeles, and worked together from the start. The furniture they made was stylish and was sought after by most American families. In 1947 they established their own studio, the Eames Office, in Venice, LA. Ray had a sharp eye for detail when it came to Charles big ideas for pieces. Charles died in 1978. Ray died in 1988. Some of their most iconic pieces are showcased in their original home which can be toured.
