Description

Antique White Rotary Cleveland Ohio Sewing Machine with Solid Wood Cabinet. Model This is in working condition. Cabinet does show significant wear due to use and age as can be seen in photographs. Tin of assorted threads are included.

Thomas White invented and sold the first White sewing machines in 1858. He was only twenty-two years old and had to sell one machine at a time to have enough money to buy the parts to make another! Before long he launched the incorporated White Sewing Machine Company based in Cleveland, Ohio. .In the 1920s, the company landed a deal with Sears Roebuck & Co and became their sole supplier of sewing machines for several decades. During WWII, White temporarily halted sewing machine production and used its factories to supply items for the war effort. After the war the demand for sewing machines skyrocketed because no one had produced them for so many years. The rotary models White produced through the 1950s remained their most popular model. White sewing machines ceased to exist after the company merged with Husqvarna-Viking in 1960.
