Description

Antique Oscar and Edgar Gutherz Porcelain Floral Vase. Stamped on Bottom with the Royal Crest Stamp and embossed 1779.

Importers from the New York firm Larzarus Straus & Sons financed the creation of the Marx & Gutherz factory in 1884 which started as a porcelain decorating firm. The company expanded into porcelain production. Then in 1898, after Edgar Gutherz bought out Marx,  the company became known as Oscar and Edgar Gutherz, O & EG  Royal Austria Factory. In 1918 the company ceased and became part of OEPIAG, the Porcelain Austrian Industry.

Oscar Gutherz started a porcelain decorating business in Altrolau in 1884, using financial backing from the American importer Lazarus Straus & Sons. The company subsequently expanded into porcelain production. In 1898, Oscar's brother, Edgar Gutherz, bought out Marx and joined Oscar in the business, which became known as the Oscar & Edgar Gutherz (O. & E.G.) Royal Austria Factory. In 1918 the Royal Austria Factory ceased to be; instead it became part of OEPIAG, the Austrian Porcelain Industry. (Cited from: https://www.antiquers.com/threads/o-eg-set.48864/)
