Description

Vintage Dionne Girls Quintuplets 1935 Photograph Print by Vincent & Hughes Authorized World Distributors of Framed Dionne Pictures.

The Dionne quintuplets were born on May 28, 1934 and are the first quintuplets known to have survived their infancy. The identical girls were born just outside Callander, Ontario, near the village of Corbeil. All five survived to adulthood. Dr. Allan Roy Dafoe started spreading the news right after he helped to deliver five identical girls in a farmhouse in Corbeil, Canada, on the morning of May 28, 1934.The province of Ontario swooped in and took them from their parents, declaring that they had to be protected from exploitation. Then it exhibited the children three times a day in a human zoo called Quintland, to be raised as a sort of science experiment. Three million visitors came in the 1930s. As of today there are two surviving sisters, Annette and Cécile. But the son who helped them win their settlement disappeared with Cécile's share of the money, so in a terrible irony, she is once again a ward of the state and lives in a state-run nursing home.

A video of the BBC interview from 1988 is shown.
