Description

Original Burkhardt Brewery Wood Beer Crate with Hinged Lid. Graphics still good. Shows wear due to use and age as can be seen in photographs. Also included is an additional Vintage Wood Crate shown in photographs.

Burkhardt Brewery was located at 529 Grant Street in Akron, Ohio. Originally named Wolf Ledge Brewery, its name was changed in 1903 by Margaretha Burkhardt, whose deceased husband had acquired the business from a previous owner by the name of Frederick Gaessler. Burkhardt Brewery was the longest lasting brewery in Akron at the time. After WWII, Burkhardt's sales declined. In 1956, Burger Brewing of Cincinnati bought the company but was closed by 1964. Today, the remaining buildings of Burkhardt Brewery are home to Thirsty Dog and Aqueduct Brewing companies.
