Description

WWII American Theater Campaign Medal & Ribbon Bar. Although unnamed, this came from the estate of Colonel USAF retired Cornelius Chima who was a B-17 Pilot during WWII. Other items in this auction includes medals from him, his brother Virgil who was KIA as a B-17 Co-Pilot and his brother Nicholas who was a USAAF Navigator and his brother George who served in the US Army and was wounded. All Four Brothers served in Europe during WWII. Cornelius was in the 332nd Squadron of the 91sr Bomb Group. Virgil was in the 702nd Squadron of the 445th Bomb Group.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The American Campaign Medal was first created on November 6, 1942 and was originally issued as the "American Theater Ribbon" for those who served in the American Theater of Operations during World War II. It is granted to personnel who served one year of consecutive duty between December 7, 1941 to March 2, 1946 and within the continental boarders of the U.S., as well as to those who served 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days of duty outside the borders of the U.S. but within the American Theater of Operations.
