The Globe-Wernicke Co. Ltd was a furniture company founded in 1893 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Globe-Wernicke was form when Globe Files Company and Wernicke Company merged. The company is best known for their office furniture, specifically their high-end bookcases and desks. The company patented the design of barrister bookcases, also known as "elastic bookcases" or modular bookcases. These pieces are meant to be customizable with the ability to be stacked and interchanged with various sized shelves. These bookcases today are highly desired collectibles. During WWII, most of their business was producing military equipment. In September of 1955 the company was purchased by the City Auto Stamping Company and in 1963 they acquired the Weis Manufacturing Company, changing the name to Globe-Weis Systems Company. Later in 1987, they were purchased by American Trading and Production Company and operated under the name ATAPCO Office Products Group. Finally in 2000 Cardinal Brands Inc. formed and merged Globe-Weis with four other brands.
