Description

Antique Middletown Plate Co. 4-Piece Quadruple Plated Hard White Metal Tea Set to include Tea Pot, Sugar and Creamer and Serving Tray. Stamped on underside. Current owner's Mother attached record of gift shown in last photograph. Shows wear and needs to polished due to age as can be seen in photographs.

Middletown Plate Company was started in 1864 by Edward Payne and Henry Bullard, making Britannia and plated ware under the name of Payne. It was often confused with the Middletown Silver Company due to when the operations moved to Meridian and employees who chose not to go to Meriden, organized the Middletown Silver Co. In 1899, Middletown Plate Company became part of the International Silver Company.  The Middletown Plate Co. trademark was used by International Silver until 1921.
