Description

This lot consists of a Vintage Lionel 1957 Orange Cattle Car 6646 and a 1959- 1962 Lionel Red Caboose Car 6057. Wear commensurate with use and age as can be seen in photographs.

The following is taken from the Lionel Trains Library Website:

History
The 6646 Stock car was a one-year only item, 1957. It is similar to the 6656 of the early 1950's and is a somewhat hard-to-find freight car. Even more difficult to locate is the original box for a 6646.

Features
Standard features of the 6646 Stock Car include: unpainted orange body with black lettering, AAR trucks, metal corner steps, opening plastic doors and metal door guides.

The 6646 is an anomly in that Lionel actually added detail to the car rather than remove detail. All 6646 cars include metal corner steps. This is somewhat counter to the direction taken by Lionel since the last appearance of metal corner steps was in the 1950 product line -- seven years prior to the production of this car!

History
The 6057 Lionel Lines caboose was included in many catalogued and uncatalogued sets. There are three harder to find variations of the 6057. Each variation is collectable and obtaining all require some time and money.

Aside from the common variety 6057 Lionel Lines caboose, there are three harder to find variations. They include

  • Unpainted orange shell. The orange caboose is known as the 6057-50 Lionel Lines caboose. It shares all of the features of the common 6057 caboose except the lettering is black instead of white and only the number 6057 is printed on the side. This caboose is from the final production run in 1962.
  • Coral or pinkish unpainted shell. This is harder to find than the 6057-50 orange caboose, but more common than the next entry, the painted red version.
  • Red painted shell. This is believed to have been part of the first production run in 1959. It's a very difficult caboose to locate and many are not even aware of its existence.
