Large Art Deco Erté "The Nile" Signed Printed Design on Pure Silk in Black and Gold Frame. This has sold on past auction for $380.00.
Romain de Tirtoff who became known as Erté was a famous fashion, jewelry and set Designer. He was born in Russia in 1892.  He was supported in his love of the arts by both of his parents and produced his first design at age 6.  In 1912 he moved to Paris which became his home.  After a brief collaboration with fashion designer Paul Poiret, he became a costume designer and began selling his pen-and-ink and gouache fashion illustrations to American fashion houses.   He worked for Harpers Bazaar and created their monthly cover and created over 200 designs from 1915 to 1937. He is known as the Father of Art Deco. In 1967 Romain exhibited 170 works in New York and the entire collection was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He passed in 1990 at the age of 97 in Paris France.
