Statton Furniture was started by the Statton Family in 1926 in Hagerstown, Maryland. The company was headed most recently by Philip J. Statton and it was found by his grandparents. They began their company with a simple line of bedroom furniture using the nearby cherry wood found in the Appalachians. Cherry became their basis for most of Statton's Furniture. The designs were inspired by 17th and 18th century Colonial classics and, after a brief period in the 1950s and 60s of modern designs, by the 1980s and 90s they became known for primarily the Statton Trutype Americana, which were considered reproductions of their classical style. In 2008, due to drop in sales and raw material prices, after 80 years Statton furniture was closed.
