Description

Edward Mobley Plastic Scottish Terrier Dog that this company was known for in the 1960's. Marked on bottom "The Edward Mobley Co. Arrow Rubber and Plastic Corp.".

Edward Mobley was a full scholarship student at the Cleveland School of Art when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. When that happened he thought his dreams of becoming a painter and illustrator were over. By the next autumn he was in the Mojave Desert training with the 6th Armored Division. After his discharge from the Army Ed went to work as an apprentice in the Art and Design department of Sun Rubber in Barberton, Ohio. At the time Sun Rubber was the largest and most successful rubber toy and doll company in the world. He became director of art and design for Sun in 1953, and in early 1958 resigned to establish his own free-lance industrial design business. The Arrow Rubber and Plastic Corp. was a custom molding company that made standard body assemblies for toys and dolls, e.g., arms, legs, and bodies in the 1950s and 1960s. The company provided the body parts for the Gerber doll. They also manufactured toys licensed by Edward Mobley.
