Description

Framed Dedham Mill Art Print by John Constable. Ornate Gold Frame with Linen Matte.

John Constable (1776 - 1837) was a British painter who was born in Suffolk England. He is best known for his paintings of the English countryside, representing his native valley of the River Stour. This area came to be known as “Constable country.” The original sketch of Dedham Mill was done in 1817. The Mill was owned and operated by his father, Golding Constable. He had three works shown in 1824 in the Paris Salon, where they were acclaimed by the French artists and were awarded a gold medal. This led to the sale in France of over twenty works and to demands for replicas. In 1829, he published English Landscape Scenery.
