Description

This Lot consists of Three Ladies Costume Necklaces in Assorted Colors and Design Styles, a Vintage Whiting & Davis Bracelet and a Black Bead Bracelet.

Charles Whiting began working for Wade Davis & Company in 1880. He was trained to become one of the highly skilled artisans. Ten years after he began working for the firm he had risen to the rank of representative for the New York office at only 26 years of age. Charles Whiting and Edward P. Davis purchased the Wade Davis & Company in 1896 and renamed the company to Whiting & Davis Manufacturing Company. In 1902, Edward Davis filed a patent and was responsible for the invention that would allow easy opening of a bracelet by using hinges fitted on each side. Whiting & Davis is best known for their costume jewelry made from the 1950s onward and more notably for their mesh hand bags. Since the 1970s, they have adorned several famous celebrities to include Christie Brinkley on the cover of Cosmopolitan in a Whiting & Davis metal mesh dress and Lady Gaga photographed with a silver-tone Whiting & Davis mesh bag.
